Mission statement

Preamble:

The Errington Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1965 by a group of concerned and dedicated citizens. In 1967, the Errington and District Volunteer Fire Department Society was formed and a charter issued by the Provincial Government. 

The Regional District of Nanaimo, in 1971, became responsible for the collecting of taxes to support the Fire Department. And a board of trustees was elected by the Errington Volunteer Fire Department society members to govern and administer the fire department. 

January 16, 1995 the Society entered into a “Contract for Services Agreement” with the regional District of Nanaimo. 

March 11, 1997 the Society signed a “Mutual Aid Agreement” with the nine other Fire Departments in District 69. 

Mission:

A:  To maintain and operate as a strictly non-profit society (Corporation) for the purpose of providing fire protection and suppression and the provision of assistance in response to other classes of circumstances that may cause harm, within the local service area of the Errington Fire Protection District, and for any other area in accordance with the terms of a mutual aid agreement.

B: To carry out and assure that the constitution and by laws of the Errington and District Volunteer Fire Department (Society) are adhered to and carried out.

C: To set goals for the continued provision of quality fire fighting and emergency services to the Errington Community. To set operational objectives for the Errington Volunteer Fire Department to achieve.

Community and Population Served:

The residents, visitors, properties, and lands. All commercial and industrial, domestic, service, and cottage industries classified as a business, within the boundaries of the Errington Fire Protection Area.

The Fire Department maintains two (2) fire halls, equipped and operated within the district for this service.
